Dragons
Creature
Dragons are large flying creatures with four legs, two wings, strong jaws with sharp teeth, and the ability to breathe fire, although their size does vary greatly. There are seven distinct breeds of dragon, known by their color: black, blue, green, red, orange, and brown. Dragons have a weapon at their ends of their tails, which develops partly out of need, partly out of choice. The options we are aware of are morningstartail, clubtail, swordtail, daggertail, and scorpiontail. Juvenile dragons are golden in color with what is called a feathertail, meaning there is no weapon at the end of their tail.
Dragons channel magic to their bonded rider that gives their rider a unique ability called a signet. A dragon's bond with their riders are strong, if a dragon dies, so does their rider. However, a dragon may survive their rider dying and can go on to bond again later.

When a flier dies, so does their gryphon.

Creature
Similar to dragons but larger and with only two legs, where dragons have four. Gray in color with razor-sharp feathers down their neck and tails containing poison barbs. There are three known breeds of wyvern, known for the color of their fire: blue, red, and green.
Wyvern are created and controlled by dark wielders. While it is possible to kill a wyvern on it's own, the most efficient way is to kill the dark wielder that created it. Doing so will kill all of the wyvern created by that dark wielder.
Xaden Riorson

Signet - shadow wielder
Third-year cadet and wingleader of fourth wing. Only child of Fen Riorson, leader of the Tyrrish rebellion who was executed when the rebellion ended. Has been smuggling weapons to the Poromish fliers to help them fight venin.
The Barrens
Country
The area of the continent furthest southeast, the Barrens is a desolate, dry, desert area that has been abandoned by any living things.
During the Great War, gryphons, dragons, and humans worked together to defeat the venin army of the Barrens. The venin they fought against did not channel power through a dragon or gryphon, instead pulling it directly from the source, draining any life from the ground they pulled from and leaving the area in the barren state it is named for.
The corrupted humans who turn venin, known as dark wielders, are now believed to come from more places than just the Barrens. The dark wielders are able to create and ride wyvern, which are similar to dragons. Dark wielders can only be killed with special runed daggers, although Violet was able to kill one with her lightning.
While Navarre's history acknowledges the Barrens as a place, it has erased any mention of dark wielders and venin in it's literature, including in folklore.
Navarre
Country
The largest country, taking up the western half of the continent. It comprises six different provinces: Luceras, Calldyr, Morraine, Deaconshire, Elsum, and Tyrrendor. Tyrrendor was the last province to swear fealty and attempted to secede in what is now called the Tyrrish Rebellion, which was put down five years before the start of Fourth Wing. Currently ruled by King Tauri.
Navarre contains the Vale, the nesting grounds of dragons. The power of the dragons powers the wards protecting the country. Navarre is also the home to Basgiath War College, which has four different areas of study. 1. Infantry Quadrant: training infantry soldiers that fight on the ground. 2: Scribe Quadrant: training scribes that protect the history of the country. 3. Healer Quadrant: training healers and medics. 4. Rider Quadrant: training dragon riders that bond and fight with their dragon.
Poromiel
Country
Located to the east of Navarre, Poromiel and Navarre have been at war for four-hundred years. It is made up of three provinces: Krovla, Braevick, and Cygnisen. Currently ruled by Queen Maraya.
Poromiel is the home of the gryphons, which are unable to power wards, leaving Poromiel much more vulnerable to attack. Poromiel has its own airborne soldiers who bond with gryphons, called fliers. Fliers are broken up into groups called drifts, similar to how riders are divided into wings.
