The final novel in Stephanie Garber's Once Upon a Broken Heart series, this book continues the story of Evangeline Fox, who has just woken up after having her memories stolen from her, to find out that she's in a different country and married to a prince! Worst of all, she feels like they're something really important she needs to say, she just can't remember what. Or to whom. Keep in mind, this book deals with a pretty toxic relationship, as well as some general violence and death, although nothing graphic.

Evangeline slowly unpacks the past, having memories triggered by people and places, even a dagger once. She comes to realize that her husband, Prince (soon to be King) Apollo, is not who he says he is and that there is someone else for her. Problem is, the man she loves isn't really a man at all, but an immortal being cursed with a literal kiss of death. If you kiss him, you will die, unless you're his one true love. And he's already found that person! Can she prove to him that her love can withstand a curse, breaking it once and for all?

I have been eagerly awaiting this book. I read Stephanie Garber's original series and loved it, but it took me awhile to find out about her new book, Once Upon a Broken Heart. I read the first two books of the series in succession and have been waiting, impatiently, for the last book. While the premise of the series is not the most original, the journey definitely is. Jacks is possibly my favorite "villain" ever, his character is so well written. Evangeline is incredibly likable, if a little naive in the beginning, and following her journey was so satisfying. The characters are well rounded with their own trauma, hang-ups, and traits both good and bad. Plus, Stephanie Garber is only getting better as she continues writing. The finale of the book was so stress inducing - in the best way possible - that I had to take a walk at one point just to calm my nerves. The epilogue alludes to possible additional series coming, and I really hope that's true. I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next.

I'm giving A Curse for True Love by Stephanie Garber 5 out of 5 stars. If you enjoy fantasy, please try the titular first book in the series, I don't think you'll be disappointed. You do not need to read Stephanie Garber's Caraval books to understand what is happening in this series. The spice level is a very, very tame 1/2 out of 5.
