Jasmine Guillory is a celebrated romance novelist, her work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Cosmopolitan, and The Today Show. The Proposal was chosen as the Reese's Book Club pick of February 2019. It's pretty lighthearted, but we still talk about grief, the death of a parent, and pregnancy.
When Nik's boyfriend asks her to go with him to a baseball game to celebrate his birthday, she agrees, but she thought it was going to be just the two of them. Instead, it's just the two of them and all of her boyfriend's friends. Even worse, he proposes to her on the jumbotron, after only a few months of dating, and he spells her name wrong! She tries to quietly ask him if they can talk about this later, but he doesn't get the hint until she finally tells him no, in front of all of the cameras. He storms off, leaving her at the game by herself. Enter Carlos, sitting with his sister a few rows behind Nik, who rescues Nik from the cameras and offers to give her a ride home. They end up hanging out with Carlos' sister and Nik's two best friends as they talk about how ridiculous the night was! A few days later, Nik can't stop thinking about Carlos and she decides to email him, and sparks fly. Two people who aren't looking for anything serious...and the rest is history.
This book was fine. It was exactly what you expect a romance novel to be: fluffy with nothing too profound. That being said, I got a little frustrated with the pace of the story. There was a lot of time spent with the characters wondering why no one is making a move, while they don't make a move either. The story was cute, I liked that it started with a failed proposal. The writing was adequate, I did laugh out loud a few times. The characters were likeable, although nothing special. If you like romance novels, you will probably like this but I wouldn't say it's particularly unique in any way. I wouldn't tell anyone to stay away from this book but I would not recommend it either.
I'm giving The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory 3.75 stars out of 5. Spice level was a 1, nothing too exciting, especially for a romance novel. A quick, fluffy read that doesn't deal with anything too serious and only took me two days to finish. I enjoyed the book but I won't be adding Jasmine Guillory to my favorite authors.

Pairs well with enchiladas and making sure everyone's name is spelled correctly!
