You Have a Match by Emma Lord

Emma Lord is a digital media editor by day, but by night she is cranking out the young adult novels. She's released six since 2020 and has two more coming out soon. You Have a Match is a New York Times bestseller as well as being chosen as Reese's Book Club YA pick for the winter of 2021 and the Best YA Pick of 2021 by Popsugar. Being a YA book, there's not many warnings here, but they do talk about infertility, grief, abandonment, and injury.

Abby and her two friends decide to take a DNA test while doing a big school project about their family trees. Abby isn't too interested, she's really doing it more for the sake of her adopted friend so he doesn't have to do it alone. After all, her family is pretty boring. Her parents got married in law school, had her young, then had three boys after her. Or at least that's what she thinks, but the DNA test tells her that she has a full-blooded older sister that only lives half an hour away. Why would they give up their baby daughter just to stay together and have more kids? Abby and her new found sister decide to solve the mystery together, even though they couldn't be more different and really annoy each other most of the time. But maybe that's what siblings are supposed to do.

This book was like a cool breeze on a hot day. I loved it. Abby is dealing with this huge life discovery while trying to deal with the grief of her grandfather's passing and get through a weird spot with her best friends. The writing was good, the characters were adorable, I laughed a lot and found myself smiling as I listened to the story. Yes, it's a young adult novel but it takes on some really serious issues in a way that's easy to listen to. I've got nothing else to say. It was an adorable book, a great story, for adults young and old.

I'm giving You Have a Match by Emma Lord 5 stars! I really enjoyed it and will definitely be looking for more of Emma Lord's books. Quick and easy to read, and thoroughly enjoyable.

Pairs well with lasagna roll ups and remembering that year you went to summer camp.
