Spiced Orange Cocktail

Ingredients

Spiced Honey Syrup

  • 1/2 c. water

  • 1/2 c. honey

  • 2 inches ginger, freshly peeled & sliced

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 2 inches orange peel

Orange Cocktail

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1 oz. mezcal

  • 1 oz. silver rum

  • 3 oz. orange juice

  • 3/4 oz. spiced honey syrup (see above)

  • 2 dashes ground cinnamon

  • 1 dash ground ginger

  • 1 dash ground nutmeg

  • Ice

Salted Cinnamon Sugar (optional)

  • 1 tsp. sea salt flakes

  • 1 tsp. granulated sugar

  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

Directions

  1. Combine water, honey, ginger, and cinnamon sticks in a saucepan over medium heat.

  2. Bring to a simmer until honey fully dissolves. Add the orange peel and simmer for another 30 seconds.

  3. Remove from heat and allow to sit for at least 30 minutes.

  4. Strain into a glass and chill. Can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.

  5. Light the end of a cinnamon stick on fire and place on a fireproof surface. Trap the smoke with your cocktail glass.

  6. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add remaining ingredients. Shake it all up.

  7. Pour into the now smoky glass and garnish as desired. If using salted cinnamon sugar, dip rim of glass in orange juice and then in sugar before pouring.
